Cheese Scones Recipe
A tasty and satisfying breakfast, the key to a good start to the day.
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 7 oz cheese
- 2 oz feta cheese
- 1 pc large egg
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp dry yeast
- Egg yolk for greasing
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine 1 cup of milk, 1 large egg, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of dry yeast, 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and a pinch of salt. Mix these ingredients until well combined.
- Gradually add 2 ¼ cups of all-purpose flour to the mixture while continuing to stir. Knead the dough until it comes together. It should be soft and slightly sticky.
- Cover the bowl with the dough and let it rest in a warm place for about 20 minutes. This will allow the dough to rise.
- While the dough is resting, grate 7 ounces of cheese using a coarse grater. Divide it into two equal parts. Add the crumbled feta cheese to one of the parts and mix it in, forming a ball.
- Preheat your oven to 355 °F (180°C).
- On a floured surface, place the risen dough and use your hands to shape it into a large circle.
- Place the cheese and feta ball in the center of the dough circle.
- Carefully wrap the dough around the cheese ball, sealing it inside.
- Once the cheese ball is enclosed in the dough, gently press and shape the dough into a circle.
- Brush the top of the scone with egg yolk to give it a shiny glaze.
- Sprinkle the remaining half of the grated cheese on top of the scone.
- Place the scone on a baking sheet or in a baking dish, and then put it in the preheated oven.
- Bake at 355 °F (180°C) for about 20 minutes or until the scone is golden brown and has a nice cheesy aroma.
- Once it’s done, take it out of the oven and let it cool slightly.
