Ingredients

  • 7 oz ground meat
  • 8 large oinions
  • 3 ½ oz butter
  • 3 ½ oz cheese
  • 3 oz breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp dry thyme
  • herbs to taste
  • salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Wash the onions and dry them with paper towels. Cut off the bottom so that the onions are straight. Cut off the top of the onions to make them look like a barrel.
  • Wrap the onions in foil. Place them on a baking tray and bake at 180°C until soft, which should take 50-60 minutes. Then, take them out and let them cool.
  • Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Fry minced garlic, add the mince, and cook for 2-3 minutes. Stir constantly to prevent the formation of large lumps. Allow the mixture to cool.
  • Remove a small amount of the inner layers of each onion to create a shell with multiple layers.
  • Chop the extracted onion. Mix it with minced meat, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, thyme, and herbs.
  • Stuff the onions with the mixture, cover them with foil and bake at 356℉ (180°C) for 30-40 minutes.
  • 5-10 minutes before the onions are ready, remove the covers, sprinkle grated cheese, and cover again

Notes

  • Any type of ground meat can be used.
  • Carefully peel the onions and cut off the tops and bottoms. Hollow out the onions, leaving a 1/4-inch wall of 1 to 2 layers of onion on the sides and bottom
  • Place the onions in a baking dish, pour broth at the bottom, and cover the pan tightly with foil.
  • Cook your ground meat over medium heat until it’s no longer pink.
  • Don’t rush the cooking of the chopped onions. Keep them on the stove until the natural sugars are caramelized.
