Classic Potato Draniki

They can be served as a side dish, a main course, or even a breakfast treat. They’re delicious on their own, but they can also be paired with a variety of accompaniments, from sour cream and applesauce to smoked salmon and caviar.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 pcs large potatoes
  • 1 pc egg
  • 1 pc medium onion
  • ½ cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • salt, dry spices to taste

Instructions
 

  • Take the required amount of potatoes, peel them from the skin and rinse well from impurities in running water.
  • Peel the onion from the husks.
  • Grate the peeled potatoes and onions on a grater. Use a fine grater for a more homogeneous consistency.
  • Add the egg, flour, salt and spices to the grated vegetables. I recommend using a little ground black pepper and dried dill or parsley as spices.
  • Stir everything thoroughly to make a homogeneous mixture.
  • Heat a frying pan until hot. Pour a little vegetable oil on it.
  • Spread a little potato mass on the frying pan with the help of a spoon.
  • Fry the draniki on both sides, on medium heat, until the appearance of an appetizing, golden color. Do not hurry to make a strong fire. It is necessary to let the draniki fry properly.
  • Serve ready in a hot form, supplementing the dish with sour cream.

Notes

  • You can add various other ingredients, such as cheese, mushrooms, lard, fresh herbs, if you wish. It will turn out very tasty and hearty in every case.
  • For a brighter taste and aroma, you can add a little crushed garlic to them. 
  • You can prepare garlic sauce as an addition to the finished draniki.
  • Prepare the pancakes so that they are eaten at once in one go while hot. When they sit, not everyone may like the flavor of draniki.
